We're Gamers

They are “It Takes Two” and “Split Fiction”.

My daughter and I wanted to play co-op on the PS5. She had played It Takes Two for a little bit somewhere else. She wanted to play it with me, I didn't have any objections, so I bought it for $12 and we played it for just about an entire Saturday. Then a lot Sunday. Then played a few more days and beat it. The mechanics of that game are incredible. The book character is a little annoying but overall bearable given the rest of the game. And it's a good story. Particularly for me it was the time level. If you know, you know. I played as the guy and my daughter was the girl. But so many memorable and fun moments! I mean, to be considered the best game I've ever played at the time, it would have to be spectacular all around. And it was. At this time, it's been a while since we've played. A few months.

After we finished It Takes Two, I looked into the developer of the game. They make a few more, and one is a prison break game. I pitched that to her to see if it would get any traction. It didn't. The other one was Split Fiction. I had a vague understanding that it was “great” but I didn't really understand what other people would think of as “great” in the context of these types of games without first playing It Takes Two. So now having played that, I knew what “great” meant. Not compared to other games, but in the context of what co-op can be. I ponied up the $50 or so it was asking.

Oh my god. I mean, it got started ok. A little slow. Setting up story. I forget the first couple of levels. But it has the two most incredible levels I've ever played. They were both in the Sci-Fi realm of things. The supernova level and the shield level, where the blue bombs remove the blue shields, etc. Insanely fun, insanely creative. There was one puzzle where when I thought of an idea, and my daughter and I executed my plan, where I decided that this was the best game I ever played. Also, the final level is just … you can't imagine how good until you experience it.

I've played a lot of games. A lot of different types of games. Some are fun and take a lot of my time. Some feel like work. I think The Witcher 3 was my previous best game I've ever played. Still, amazing game. But these two, for the experience they gave me and my daughter, and we were high fiving and crying laughing at times, these are the new two best games I've ever played.
